Hosta 'Patriot'
Patriot is the crisp white-edged hosta most people picture when they picture a variegated one, and the wide margin is what sells it. Mine brightens a shady bed that green hostas just disappear into. The trade-off is honest: the thinner variegated leaves are more of a slug target than my blues. That is a bigger warning in a wet climate than it is here: there are no damp corners in Oklahoma. So what mine actually needs is shade from the afternoon and water it can count on, or the white margins scorch.
