will cats kill voles in the garden?

Question by : will cats kill voles in the garden?
I am having a big problem with voles in my perrenial garden. they are eating my hostas and heucheras and other plants. i don’t want to have to put out poison or set traps all the time. i’m wondering if several cats (maybe barn cats or semi-feral cats) would keep them killed out. i need help quick or my whole garden will be gone.

Voles are one of the most difficult animal pests to eradicate. My cat catches one or two daily, but only the ones she can find, and they reproduce at an alarming rate. Most of the damage is done underground, where they stay safely hidden from predators. If there aren’t already pets around, the most effective solution, although undesirable, I know, is poison. Sorry I can’t be of more help, but even the Virginia Cooperative Extension says the same…

My cats were indoor/outdoor (indoor at night/outdoor during the day) and yes they caught voles all the time.

Cats can catch a few, but one way to get rid of them, Take small plastic bottles and punch hole about 1/2 way up put moth balls in the bottle and put the bottle around the area where they are eating your plants, it will keep them away
