Early spring. If you are transplanting – as soon as you can see the hosta break through the ground is the best time to transplant or plant. Hosta is indestructible

I think you should plant and transplant your hosta plants in early spring, but wait until the ground is no longer frozen. A large hosta clump can be divided at this time also.
