What is a good bush or shrub to plant in a partially shady area in Atlanta?

Question by Sunny: What is a good bush or shrub to plant in a partially shady area in Atlanta?
I want to use it behind my house to provide some more privacy from the neighbors…it would be right next to a chain link fence.

Boxwood might work. It is thick and will eventually provide a hedge as high as you want and is very forgiving of heavy pruning.

    Hi:
You live in zone seven in Atlanta. There are many shrubs you can plant that will do well in the shade along a fence. I am a landscaper and designer and also live in zone seven. Here are a few suggestions:

    Azaleas
Pieris Japonicas – they do well in shade and have beautiful flowers in late winter and early fall.
    Hollies
    Acuba

These are just a few. You can make an entire bed along your fence and incorporate many of these along with some Hostas. This would be a great addition to your fence area. I will link you to the gallery of plants section. This has a variety of trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs. You may get some ideas from this section. Look around your neighborhood and see what you like. There are many shrubs that grow well in partial shade in Georgia — azaleas, rhododendrons, pieris, some viburnums.
