Question by Erin B: i planted bare root hostas about a month ago, how big will they get this year (i live in a zone 5)?
right now they are about 4 inches tall and about 4 inches wide.

Hostas will grow about 2 X2 and they spread too! Its a nice plant to have in your garden,

    Newly planted Hostas may not get much bigger than when you planted them this year. But watch out next year they can almost double in size every year if they like where they are planted. Then you can divide them and move one section to a new spot or share with a neighbor. They are so versatile in the garden.

    It’s early in the season, so even newly planted bare root might get pretty large depending on cultivar. How big is dependent on what kind of hosta it is, some are small and others become huge.
