Water the plant individually and then separate the leaves with your hands until you find the base of the clover and pull it out. The water loosens the soil so the weeds are easier to pull out.

    You shouldn’t need to weed between them for too long. The good/bad thing about hosta is that it grows together very tightly, blocking out light and growing space for competing weeds. (I say bad because… well, just wait until you try to split an over-grown clump.)
