Hosta Trouble?

Question by lilacandivy: Hosta Trouble?
I have a small hosta plant, not sure what kind it is. It is alive and well-established but not flourishing. The leaves, almost as soon as they are about 3″ long, start to grow brown on the tips and the edges until the whole leaf just shrivels up. Why are the leaves shriveling?? Am I watering too little/much?
it is in a pot in my bedroom, which faces west so it is fairly shady. It gets about an hour or so of direct sunlight in the afternoon.

make sure you are not watering the leaves, just the roots. They prefer full shade and moisture. Hostas will do much better outside…they want their roots to spread…they will grow larger and spread a lot more if in the ground. They are not a good container plant.

Sounds like you have it in the sun and they don’t like that.

Are they planted in the SHADE?? They can take complete shade..they do not like any afternoon or direct light on them. Have you used any chemicals in the area??

do u have it in too much sun?? it almost sounds like ur burning ur leaves. maybe try a shadier spot and once hostas r established u shouldn’t hardly need to water at all. good luck=) …
