Can you grow a hosta from the bare root?

Question by nsm731: Can you grow a hosta from the bare root?
I bought a package that claimed to have 3 plants in it from a garden store but there were no leaves on any of them. Just whiskers and roots.

Hostas always die down in the winter so there is nothing to see above ground.

Plant the root with just the ‘whiskers’ showning in a shady place in the garden and water. It should show signs of growth in around three weeks as it’s a bit behind now.

Mine are just coming up in the garden. They all die down in the autumn and come back in the spring.
