Any suggestions for a small yard (mobile home park) with most of the yard facing north?

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Question by deb8603: Any suggestions for a small yard (mobile home park) with most of the yard facing north?
I’m interested in perennials that would give color & fragrance from early spring to late fall, if that is possible. There is also a small area (approximately 2.5 ft X 4 ft.) between the walkway & the side of the home that I’d like to add some type of water feature.

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Question by Look me over, I’m the Capm: What type of shade plants that flower are there?
Something that only needs 3-4 hours of sun a day, but will have some nice flowers on them. I live in the SF bay area if you need to know the climate.

what’s the best time of year to transplant “hostas”?

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Question by tabaky69: what’s the best time of year to transplant “hostas”?
my mother-in-law has a bunch of them in her flower garden and she don’t take care of them and they are pretty much dirrectly in the sun all day, (everything is so over grown and ugly) If I remember right they are supposed to be in the shade most the time, but I want to take some and put them at our house where they can actually grow to the correct size and be more apprieciated. (she did say that was ok for me to take them) when’s a good time to do this without killing them out?

Replanting worth it or not?

Saturday, April 13th, 2013

Question by squeak_50: Replanting worth it or not?
I have acquired a large number of pots that were recently (~3 weeks ago) planted with everything ranging from petunias to hostas. Alot are dying. They were just planted in topsoil. I have been giving them miracle grow weekly, but does not seem to help. Should I unpot, and mix in some manure or garden soil and then replant. I do not have beds for them yet, so for now they have to go back in pots. Is it worth the stress of repotting them to give them better soil? Yes, all the pots have drain holes and have been getting watered daily, and get some sun, but not all day.
