Can I seperate a hosta?

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Question by horvathwireless: Can I seperate a hosta?
I have a huge hosta that is taking up too much of space. I don’t want to kill it but would like to downsize it and put a piece of it in another area. It hasn’t come up yet this year. Can this be done?

Question by mattysmom: can any hosta tolerate sun? are blue hostas are less tolerant of sun? why would leaves turn brn/crinkly??
I have them under tree, but purchased a dozen of different varieties and wanted to place them in other not so shady areas of garden. Any experience/suggestions? Thanks

Brown crinkly leaves are definitely a sign of too much sun. ome varieties of hosta can take a little sun as long as they get afternoon shade. Usually the larger ones, with the thickest leaves, fare the best. Patriot, blue angel, and sum and substsance can tolerate light sun, although they prefer shade.

If the root system is intact it should regrow. Watch for new sprouts and make sure you keep it watered.

Any Hosta experts?

Friday, December 16th, 2011

Question by Cheyenne: Any Hosta experts?
I am looking for a particular plant. I beleive it’s a variety of hosta. I’m looking for a name. It has plain green leaves and the flowers are not the usual trumpet shaped ones. It has a ball of flowers at the top of a long stem. They are early bloomers & Ive seen them in purple & white color.

Thanks for any help
