Get a pie tin & bury it so the lip is at ground level. Fill it almost full of beer.
The snails will come for the beer and drown. After three or four nights you will not have any more problems.
We had tons of snails in California and believe me this works.
What do you think?

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011White fuzzy insect on my hosta?
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011Question by faithcmbs9: White fuzzy insect on my hosta?
Hi all,
I’m having a hosta problem. Soon after I got my hosta, I noticed small black bugs which I thought to be ants in the plantbox and sometimes on the hosta plant I have. I ignored them for awhile, and then discovered one morning their was a spherical, fuzzy, white/orange ball (about the size of a large marble?) which had completely encircled two of the hosta leaf stems (the leaf stem were dying). We cut off both leaves with the fuzzy ball, thinking maybe it was some type of fungus. Ever since then, I’ve noticed that in addition to my little black “ants” (Which I’m thinking may not be ants?) there are these little white fuzzy insects which like to hang out at the base of the hosta in between the leaf stems and on the underside of the leaves. I’ve been scraping them off whenver I see them, but my hosta is still suffering somewhat. What are these things??

yes- but you have to have the root with it.
I use a shovel to divide my plants, and then gently break away a leaf with root attached, and replant. I have gotten tons of hostas that cover my whole yard with just one plant several years ago.

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011Question by Magster: Is Hosta deer resistant?
We have deer at our house on a daily basis. We just moved to this house in October so I haven’t had time to plant very much…but I’m getting ready to start!!! We have lots of woods surrounding our house with dappled sun so hosta should be perfect in places! Thank you for your answers!

The hostas that you like the looks of!
There are many many hundreds of varieties out there. Go to your local garden center or nursery this spring, and look over the varieties. Pick out some that “call to you”.
